Break from social media and short form writing

I am consciously taking a break from Twitter and short form writing and publishing (op-eds and blogs). The Twitter app on my phone is deleted, and besides a short blog which is expected to be out soon and will be posted here to my website blog, there is no more short form writing on the horizon for now. I do still use Twitter on my PC, but in a Tweetdeck form, just to stay in touch with what the conversation is on different topics of interest, or within groups of interest. No more eating chips. Going to dig into the academic’s bread and butter: research work. The short form requires that I should be plugged into social media and the news cycle. Those things were already not conducive to research and are now becoming intolerable. Hence the move to become unplugged. No more Twitter, Instagram or FT on the phone.

The past year and a half has been good for my short form writing. I’m not worried about falling off people’s radars. I now know what it takes to get into writing for a broader, public audience in the short form rather than for academic economics in a slightly longer and more academic format. So as and when I wish to return to the shorter form, I can always do so. Perhaps I’ll write a short piece now and then when my work schedule permits. I’ll post here as and when I feel like. I like having my own website and blog. I’m free to make it whatever I want, whenever I want. It’s a good vehicle for self-expression for me.

Onwards.
